Ideal location for a sea swim group

Battisborough House is an ideal location for a sea swim group. The views from the house are breathtaking and it is only a short ten-minute walk down to the sea. Upstairs there’s ample room, for twelve people to sleep in relatively luxurious bedrooms, and for more than twenty if sharing bunkroom-style accommodation. There is a hose down area and dedicated drying room for a wet salty swim kit, a large communal kitchen with a cosy Aga to huddle round after a chilly swim and gallons of hot water for everybody to enjoy a bath or shower in. As well as a large kitchen table which can seat twelve, there is also a dining room with refectory tables and a stunning sea view. There are two large reception rooms with comfy seating, although the best place to sit as long as the sun is shining is outside on the picnic tables with views south out across the English Channel. We are a sea swimming group from Hampshire and have been visiting BH for a number of years now. It is the perfect location for us to enjoy wonderful wild sea swims together!”

Couldn’t imagine going anywhere else!

We always look forward to our visits to Battisborough House, drawn in by its exclusive use, stunning grounds, and convenient proximity to the local beach and further exploration. The accommodation is spacious, clean and our children love the large dormitories so that they can spend down time with their friends. Becky, our host, radiates warmth and hospitality, ensuring we feel utterly welcomed throughout our stay. Nothing is too much trouble; the children relish activities like hot chocolate by the campfire and indulging in a plethora of games during their leisure time. Their dietary needs are impeccably catered to, with no request too challenging. They always return home raving about the ‘best breakfast ever.’ Battisborough House has become a right of passage for our Year 6 children and I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else!

One day when we were down in Battisborough we went to the beach and went paddle boarding, this is something I will never forget.

A gem of a location

Enjoyed a fabulous week with family and friends at Battisborough House.  An ideal set-up, stunning setting with a huge amount to see and do.  Highly recommend the Surfing Cow ice cream from the farm next door, as well as the walk over to Mothecombe Beach and a pub lunch in Noss Mayo.  A gem of a location, great for families and groups – the perfect base from which to explore the wonders of Devon.

Summer House Party

The perfect venue for my birthday party

Battisborough House provided the perfect venue for my birthday party, one I won’t forget! The numbers for the evening grew beyond the capacity of the house so I was able to use Hatch Marquees to put a marquee on the driveway. We were able to sit down to eat and then clear the decks for the band afterwards. The views out to sea provided a dramatic backdrop for cocktails on the lawn and the hallway was a great bar area. Everything was better than I could have wished for. Local friends were able to drift home while others from further afield stayed for the weekend. Thank you, I highly recommend the house for any kind of celebration.

Great base for a big group

Beautiful position looking out to sea, a short walk from good beaches and with its own extensive grounds. Spacious communal areas and well-equipped kitchen for catering. Great base for a big group for social events or exploring the surroundings.

Beautiful spot

I was a student here from 1974 to 76, so it’s particularly special to me, but you will not easily find a more beautiful spot and fascinating place to visit.

Breathtaking views

With breathtaking views in every direction, Battisborough presents a panorama of possibilities …from stunning hikes along the coastline to beach walks.
For children, it is a chance to live like an Enid Blyton book – wholesome food, endless outdoor play, bunk beds in dorms and running free by the seaside.
Battisborough and its idyllic setting gives them an excellent opportunity to learn and grow in many vital ways.

Fun

If I had to describe Battisborough, I would describe it as adventurous, beautiful, picturesque, and fun. The dorms are so fun to sleep and play games in. The perfect dining hall that looks directly down the valley out to the sea is a feeling from a fairytale.
